Desiderata by Max Ehrmann

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,

be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Beauty For Ashes by Lenora McWhorter

Madamsabi's Blog

God gives us beauty for ashes
and His love washes away our tears.
He stills the storms around us
and gives hope to replace our fears.

God gives strength for our weakness
and comfort when we are in pain.
He gives peace to calm our anxieties
and sends sunshine after the rain.

God gives us joy for our sadness
and wisdom to direct our way.
He sends healing for our sicknesses
and His grace keeps us every day.

God gives sweet rest from our labor
and His mercy eases our sorrows.
He meets us when we are in the valley
and promise a bright tomorrow.

God’s compassion never fails
His mercies are new every morning.
He gives living water to quench our thirst
and He satisfies our every longings.

What God Hath Promised by Annie Johnson Flint

Madamsabi's Blog

God hath not promised
Skies always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways
All our lives through;
God hath not promised
Sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow,
Peace without pain.

But God hath promised
Strength for the day,
Rest for the labour,
Light for the way,
Grace for the trials,
Help from above,
Unfailing sympathy,
Undying love.

Can You See God? Author Unknown

Madamsabi's Blog

A small boy once approached his slightly older sister with a question about God. “Susie, can anybody ever really see God?” he asked.

Busy with other things, Susie curtly replied: “No, of course not silly. God is so far up in heaven that nobody can see him.”

Time passed, but his question still lingered so he approached his mom: “Mom, can anybody ever really see God?” “No, not really,” she gently said. “God is a spirit and he dwells in our hearts, but we can never really see Him.”

Somewhat satisfied but still wondering, the youngster went on his way. Not long afterwards, his saintly old grandfather took the little boy on a fishing trip.

They were having a great time together. The sun was beginning to set with unusual splendor and the grandfather stared silently at the exquisite beauty unfolding before them.

On seeing the face of his grandfather…

Shine by Anitapoems

Madamsabi's Blog

Life is something we all share,
Just like oxygen, in the air.
The way we live it, is up to us,
With a negative or with a plus.

Life is something, we should cherish,
We never know, when we’ll perish.
Live each and every single day,
Smell the flowers, stop and play.

Life is something, we’ve been blessed,
Choice is yours, choose your quest.
Follow your passions, and you’ll be fine,
With the right attitude, you will shine.

When You Thought I Wasn’t Looking Author Unknown

Madamsabi's Blog

When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator,
and I wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you feed a stray cat,
and I thought it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you make my favorite cake for me,
and I knew that little things are special things.

When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I heard you say a prayer,
and I believed there is a God I could always talk to.

When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I felt you kiss me good night,
and I felt loved.

When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw tears come from your eyes,
and I learned that sometimes things hurt,
but it’s all right to cry.

When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw that you cared and…

Facing Trials Like A Blacksmith

Your posts never cease to inspire and motivate. I thank God for you.

Madamsabi's Blog

There was a blacksmith who gave his heart to God. Though conscientious in his living, still he was not prospering materially. In fact, it seems that from the time of his conversion more trouble, affliction and loss were sustained than ever before. Everything seemed to be going wrong.

One day a friend who was not a Christian stopped at the little gorge to talk to him. Sympathizing with him in some of his trials, the friend said “It seems strange to me that so much affliction should pass over you just at the time when you have become an earnest Christian. Of course, I don’t want to weaken your faith in God or anything like that. But here you are, God’s help and guidance, and yet things seem to be getting steadily worse. I can’t help wondering why it is.”

The blacksmith did not answer immediately, and it was evident…

Carrots, Eggs and Coffee

Madamsabi's Blog

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as when one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans.

She let them sit and boil; without saying a word. In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out…

The Mendicant by Anthony De Mello

Madamsabi's Blog

When I think how long I have lived
I am struck by life’s injustice:
others have lived much less
(I think of some I have known),
some have been given less than an hour of life.

I recall my childhood
and the various stages of my growth.
I have been blessed, indeed, beyond anything
I expected or deserved!

I think of the experiences that life has given me
– happy ones that filled my heart,
painful ones that helped me grow –

Of the discoveries I have made…

Of the persons I was privileged to meet…

And of my talents and abilities,
of sight
and hearing,
smell and taste and touch
and mind and will and memory
and the limbs and organs of my body.

If I were to die today
I should certainly have had more than my fair share
of life’s blessings.
Whatever else life has in store…

The Journey Begins

“Everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life.” (MSG) – 1 Corinthians 15:22

let God 2

It’s been a year since my first post. Since then I have grown, but it’s far from over. The journey is just beginning. Why am I so sure of this? Because God is present in everything in my life. I began with questioning my purpose in life and God is presently directing my life towards that purpose. I dealt with anger, fear and trust. I dealt with the truth and life. I dealt with soul searching topics of love, hope and faith. The moral of the story of this year is that those things which are unseen have a higher priority of those things which are seen.

Let God

Through the examination of the unseen, the seen fall into place. Once you become beautiful in the heart, it reflects on the face. The examination of the unseen has taken me along a journey of reflection and revelation which has been teaching me invaluable lessons about mercy, truth and grace. Peace permeates my soul. Peace fills my surroundings as I resolve interpersonal and intrapersonal conflicts.

strong enough

I would have never expected to be here. Right now I am still a wife, mother and teacher. I can add that I am a free lance writer and a blogger. I am also looking forward to pursuing a doctorate. I pray that this blog will still be going for many years to come. This is a wonderful outlet to express opinions, to release frustrations and to confirm the truths which have always been there. I am so appreciative of the many readers from my home land and other countries from across the world, whose comments have been helpful in the development of the blog and my personality as well. This experience has enabled me to meet people from places like China and Nigeria. It has been nothing short of a blessing.

let God 3

Disappointments and failures only bring me closer to God and so when they come my way I know how to effectively deal with them. I hope that this time next year I can add on more achievements. I hope that this time next year the blog can touch more people in the world. I hope that this time next year God will continue to use me in incredible ways that would glorify His name. I am one of the Saints in the Kingdom. No matter how many times I get knocked down, stumble or fall, God holds me up with His right hand and that is so amazing.

let God 4

For His grace and mercy is more than sufficient for me. It’s more that sufficient for you. This story is not the ending for me. This is only the beginning of more wonderful things which God has in store for those who love Him. This is possible for everyone who believes in God. It is just not only for me. God is everywhere. You just have to close your eyes, be still and know and listen for him; in His Word, in the nature and in people who come into your lives just like that. It’s not a mere coincidence. It’s God working in your life. Lose control and let God be God.
